Japanese Woman Speaks Bangla, “Khoob Bhalo” Says Netizens

In what looks like a cute seven minutes interaction, a video of a woman speaking Bangla – fluent that any Bangali you know – has been doing the rounds on the web. The Japanese origin woman, named Sakura, in the video clip can’t be only seen speaking Bangla but also saying that it is her favourite language. 

A Facebook user named Apurba Das shared the video with the caption “A Japanese girl who loves Bengali more than many Bongs.”

The video had been shot in Japan by Das. As he introduces the woman, she reveals that she had learned the language at the Jadavpur University in Kolkata. She adds that she also has knowledge about the work of Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore.

She further reveals that she has also seen Satyajit Ray’s films and loves Bengali dishes like Shorshe Ilish and Roshogolla.

“ I have read Feluda’s stories (the famous detective created by Satyajit Ray). Also, I have seen a few Bangla films too. I have seen Pather Panchali,” said Sakura.

Netizens were taken by surprise after seen her fluency with Bangla and lauded her efforts.

A Facebook user, who happened to have had studied at the same university wrote that she identifies Sakura and remembers meeting her when she was in India. “She and her friends who were taking a course in Bangla in JU, and they mentioned they loved ‘Kabuliwaala’,” wrote the user named Mimosa Khatun.
