The death of the former PM has been confirmed by the Japanese media. Japanese media outlet NHK and Kyoto news agency have confirmed the same. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has strongly condemned the act and has defined it as barbaric.” It is a barbaric act during election campaigning, which is the foundation of democracy, and it is absolutely unforgivable. I condemn this act in the strongest terms.” said current PM Fumio Kishida.

World Leaders and PM Modi Condemn The Attack

Several world leaders including PM Modi have condemned the attack on the longest-serving PM of Japan.PM Modi expressed regret over the incident and took it to his official Twitter handle.”I am shocked and saddened beyond words at the tragic demise of one of my dearest friends, Shinzo Abe. He was a towering global statesman, an outstanding leader, and a remarkable administrator. He dedicated his life to make Japan and the world a better place.”, reads a tweet by PM Modi. He further tweeted,” Sharing a picture from my most recent meeting with my dear friend, Shinzo Abe in Tokyo. Always passionate about strengthening India-Japan ties, he had just taken over as the Chairman of the Japan-India Association.”, PM Modi tweeted.

“We are shocked and saddened to hear about the violent attack against former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. We are closely monitoring the reports and keeping our thoughts with his family and the people of Japan.” said a White House spokesperson. Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese said, “Shocking news from Japan that former PM Shinzo Abe has been shot – our thoughts are with his family and the people of Japan at this time.”
