Karnataka Opens Night Shifts For Non-IT Sector Women

In what can be said as a step towards promoting gender equality, opportunities and freedom for women in the state the Karnataka government has decided to open up the night shifts for non-IT sector women employees as well.

The state government would table the Karnataka Shops and Commercial Establishments (Amendment) Bill, 2019 in the upcoming session of the assembly to allow women in the state to work night shifts at their jobs in shops and commercial establishments.

As of now the women employees in IT and ITeS sectors are allowed to work in night shifts. The bill also says that the employers would have to obtain written consent from women willing to work at night and provide transport facilities to them.
