Kerala Declares Coronavirus As “State Calamity” After 3 Reported Cases

Kerala on Monday has declared coronavirus as a “State Calamity” after three back to back positive cases were reported in the state. The Novel coronavirus that originated from China has killed over 425 people in China in the last five days.

“The announcement is not meant to scare people. It is to help take proactive steps to intensify the steps to contain the spread of the virus,” state Health Minister KK Shailaja said.

All the ones found positive of the virus had returned from Wuhan, China and were in physical contact with each other. As many as 140 samples have been sent for testing as of now out of which 46 were reported negative and three positive.

Coronavirus has spread to more than 20 countries across the world in the last few weeks. The Philippines is the first country to have had reported the first coronavirus related death outside China.

“Third positive case of Novel Coronavirus patient, has been reported in Kerala. The patient has a travel history from Wuhan in China. The patient has tested positive for Novel Coronavirus and is in isolation in the hospital. He is in stable condition and is being closely monitored,” the Health Ministry said in a statement today.

All three cases reported in Kerala were from different parts of the same.
