The steaming news is coming from West Bengal where the Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee apologised for her minister’s comments on President Droupadi Murmu. She claimed that it isn’t her party’s culture to pass personal comments on other people.
Ms Banerjee said that, “We respect the President a lot. She is a very sweet lady, I apologise for the comments, Akhil (Giri) has done something wrong; I condemn the comments and I apologise.”
She also added that “Beauty is not about how you look, it is about how you are from the inside.”
In addition to this apology, the party also tweeted the following words:
“We have the utmost respect for the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu. Our party strongly condemns the unfortunate remarks made by MLA Akhil Giri and clarifies that we do not endorse such statements. In the era of women’s empowerment, such misogyny is unacceptable.”
In fact, Akhil Giri, the person who passed a comment on the president’s look, apologised himself for his comments.
However, West Bengal BJP MLAs have marched to the Raj Bhavan in protest against these distasteful comments made by Mr Giri, the minister of state for Correctional Homes.
But Trinamool had to point out several instances of BJP leaders where they indulged in personal attacks on TMC leaders, especially Tribal MLA and minister Birbaha Hansda. Highlighting what Suvendu Adhikari did, the TMC said, “Belittling women & the ST community comes as second nature to @SuvenduWB. He has used the most unparliamentary language for MLA @Birbaha_Hansda, who is a daughter of the soil, a proud adivasi. Any sermon on respect for women from @BJP4India leaders is a cruel joke”
As an Indian woman, I feel ashamed to even report this news to you guys because I believe no matter what a woman achieves, she will always be judged by her appearance and other superficial factors that don’t even matter in the real world.
I wonder what better our Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu could do more than becoming the president herself to make these mouths shut on her facial appearance and caste.
I am sharing this picture of her below and all I can see is a beautiful and nurturing smile paired with eyes who wants to do better in the country.
Besides, Droupadi has always been humiliated by the hands of men and I can not expect better of them.
