Microsoft Is Buying Candy Crush For $69 Billions

Microsoft Corporation announced that it is planning to buy US Based gaming firm Activision Blizzard for 68.7 billion dollars in cash. Activision Blizzard is maker of popular games like Candy Crush, Warcraft, Diablo and Call of Duty.

Buying the gaming giant would help Microsoft in making big leaps towards technologies that are critical for future. Gaming, Metaverse, Virtual and Augmented Reality has become critical and they have a very promising future.

Microsoft said in a statement, “With three billion people actively playing games today, and fuelled by a new generation steeped in the joys of interactive entertainment, gaming is now the largest and fastest-growing form of entertainment. This acquisition will accelerate the growth in Microsoft’s gaming business across mobile, PC, console and cloud and will provide building blocks for the metaverse.”

This deal is the largest acquisition in the gaming universe. And it will make Microsoft world’s third largest gaming company after Tencent (China) and SONY (Japan).

For the longest time Microsoft has been known as a company that has strong focus on enterprise software and hardware. This buying will also make Microsoft a big player in the gaming industry in which VR and AR are key elements.

Recently, Facebook changed its name to Meta and let the world know that it will focus strongly on metaverse. Since then Microsoft has been looking for an opportunity that will allow the company to immerse in it.

Microsoft is known for making gaming console Xbox. After acquiring Activision the company will make Xbox a more immersive experience.

After the news released in the market prices of Sony shares dropped by 9.5% in Tokyo Stock Exchange. This happened because investors have concerns about growing competition in the industry.
