Mob lynching has once again came to haunt India. This time when it is already battling a pandemic. From Dadri in 2015 to Palghar this time, only the place has changed not the horrific news of the act. 3 people have been lynched by the mob on Thursday night. An incident that came to light on Sunday.
3 men including a driver of the car were lynched on the suspicion of being child-kidnappers and organ harvesters. The 3 deceased are identified as Chikne Maharaj Kalpavrukshagiri (70), Sushilgiri Maharaj (35), and their car driver Nilesh Telgade (30).
The 3 were driving to a funeral in Surat when a group of villagers in Gadchinchle stopped them and attacked them with stones, logs, and axes. Gadchinchle is a tribal village in a remote part of Palghar. A video of the incident going viral shows one of the 3 men reaching out to a policeman standing there. The policeman instead of saving them and controlling the mob is seen moving away from the man.
As per reports by Indian Express the police reached the spot when the mob had already overturned the car in which the 3 were traveling. The police have so far arrested 101 people and 9 minors. The adults are currently in 12-day police custody while the minors have been sent to a children’s home. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government has ordered a high-level inquiry into the Palghar mob lynching.
