NASA’s First All-Women Space Walk To Happen Today

After 420 spacewalks, all featuring men at the International Space Station (ISS), NASA’s all-women team will conduct the first-ever all-women spacewalk on Friday.

NASA astronauts Christina Koch and Jessica Meir will off-board the ISS to replace a broken battery charger on the outskirts of the same. During the entirety of the task, all four men currently on the station will remain inside the station.

While Meir will be the 15th female spacewalker, Kock had been a part of three spacewalks (with men) before.

NASA is tagging the spacewalk as “HERstory in making,” and is also asking schoolteachers to share photos of their students celebrating the same.

NASA planned the first all-female spacewalk in March but had to call it off because of a shortage of medium-size suits.
