In an unprecedented step, the Indian government on Monday banned as many as 59 Chinese apps as a call to boycott Chinese made products and services fuels.
The IT Ministry said it has invoked its power under section 69A of the IT Act and rules and has decided to block 59 apps in view of the information available that they are “engaged in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order”.
As the move was announced, social media soon flooded with memes and jokes that poke fun at the ban of the apps and people using the same. Have a look:
Hours after the ban was implemented, TikTok India, in an official statement, said that it would issue a clarification about the app to the government.
