New Dates For ‘Tokyo Olympics’ Are Out

Facing a 1st-time delay in the past 124 years due to a pandemic the ‘Tokyo Olympics‘ got new dates. The International Olympic Committee and the Japanese organizers have decided to hold the Olympics next year that is 2021.

The event which was scheduled to start from 24th July got a year’s extension due to the COVID-19 crisis. The event would now be held from July 23 to August 8 in Tokyo next year. Along with Olympics new dates for Paralympic Games were also announced.

The Paralympic Games which were earlier scheduled for 24th August start are also pushed by 1 year to 2021. The event will now take place between 24 August and 5 September 2021. While postponing the event the Japan and IOC hinted of zeroing at the same time next year for the event.

While Japan was keen to hold the games this year IOC and the Japanese government succumbed to intense pressure from athletes and sporting bodies around the world. The reason for Japan’s keenness was that it had invested $13 billion in the run-up to the event, and raised $3 billion from domestic sponsors. Canada was the first nation to withdraw from the event in case it was held in 2020.
