New Zealand Hold England To Take 2-1 Lead In The Series

Coming on the back of a win at Wellington New Zealand kept on there winning run at the Saxton Oval by grabbing a 14 run victory over the visiting England side. England who started of the New Zealand tour with a comprehensive 7-wickets win in the 1st T20I have lost the way since then.

Guptill’s up the order firey 33 of 17 set the tone for a big total while Colin de Grandhomme’s mid-innings fifty provided that push towards a score in excess of 150. The total of 180 was always going to be a tough ask for England but the loss of debutant Tom Banton at the score of 27 made things trickier.

Vince and Malan put up a fight for England with a score of 49 and 55 respectively but failed to get past New Zealand’s disciplined bowling. Lockie Ferguson and Blair Tickner chipped in with a couple of wickets while the spinners Sodhi and Santner got wicket apiece.

Both sides would now meet up at Napier on Friday where New Zealand would hope to seal the series with a win. For England, the situation is now “win at all cost” as they have to win the remaining two T20Is to clinch the 5-match series.

Post T20Is the 2-match test series would begin from 20th November at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.
