Till Friday, the first Covid vaccine doses were higher than the second, except on Saturdays, as the day was reserved only for 2nd dose. Since January, this is the first time when more people are coming for the second dose than the first.

In the past week, Noida has vaccinated 10000-15000 people for the first dose every day, whereas the second doses are 2,000-3,000 more than those of the first.

Dr Sunil Sharma, the Chief Medical Officer says “This just shows that most people in the district have already got their first dose. We are still keeping several slots open for the first jab as Noida has a huge floating population. However, we have nearly completed our target for the first dose.”

As per the officials, there are nearly 4 lakh people to receive their second dose. Sources say the total number of people due for the second shot has down to 50,000 now. A large number of people who were affected with Covid in the month of March and April could not take their second dose for months.

With the rising demand for a second dose of Covid-19, the residents are asking for more centres and slots. As of now, the health department has already reserved six centres only for 2nd dose. Sonal Verma (a resident of Sector 48) says, these centres are not enough and not even managed properly. Officials say that people can just walk in to get their second dose. But on reaching the centres, the staff asks us to book slots in advance. These slots don’t even show up on the portal and cannot be booked either.”
