Remember the childhood days when you used to pick your nose booger?
Yeah, some of you might even have the bad habit to eat it afterwards. But today, I am here to tell you why the nose booger (which is gross) is healthy for you.
Why is nose booger helpful?
Before you jump onto thinking and picturizing the sticky gooey looking nose booger, you must know that it’s much more than that. It isn’t the green gross substance which is only found inside your nose. Booger is actually a liquid that your body produces to keep you safe from infectious bacteria.
If the inner lining of your nose is dry, you become more prone to catch cold and various other infections which are airborne. Mucus forms a sticky lining on the inside of your nose, thereby blocking any foreign particles- dust, soil, pollen, pollutants to enter your lungs.
By blocking them in your nose, it serves as a purifier for your lungs and makes sure you stay away from any infection or bacteria.
How does it work?
Once the nose booger has successfully stopped the foreign particles from entering your lungs, the fine hair inside your nose starts drying up the booger after a while. As a result, either you end up picking the nose bogger yourself, or blow it out during your bath. This way your nose entrails are clean again and you remain infection free.
Though most of the time, you end up picking it with your fingers, there is nothing to be ashamed of. All you need to do is wash your hands properly afterward.
However, if you have a habit of eating the bogger, there isn’t a straight yes or no answer. An article says that eating nose booger might sound straight up gross to someone, but there are a few who do that on a regular basis. Pointing to the same thing, he wanted to conduct a study proving that eating nose booger is actually good for your health.
What does the professor say?
Scott Napper, who is an associate professor of biochemistry at the University of Saskatchewan also attempted to convince his students to be his subjects in the nose booger study. He suggested that eating boogers may actually have some good and wonderful effects on the human immune system.
In an interview with CTV-News Saskatoon, Napper said,’ Eating boogers exposes the body to mucus that has trapped bacteria. In theory, the body could build up an immunity to the bacteria in this mucus and then be more equipped to fight against future illness-causing bacteria.’.
Ok, so according to him (in theory of course) eating nose bogger can help you develop immunity for a vast range of diseases sth bacteria that the bogger stops gets trapped there itself. When you consume it, the immune system will develop a life long immunity against the diseases it could cause. Also, if you eat booger on a constant basis, it is likely to stop the bacteria build up inside your mouth and teeth as well.
So, should you eat bogger?
As I said, the study never took place because there weren’t enough test subjects who signed up for eating their booger. However, you can very well give it a try if nose booger doesn’t gross you out.
But one thing is for sure, you should stop looking at boogers like the disgusting goo which is of no use because it literally helps you live.
Other facts about nose bogger
You will be amazed to know that your body produces almost one liter of mucus every day. When you catch a cold, the production increases significantly. Moreover, the mucus isn’t just found inside your nose lining, mucus linking goes all the way down to your intestine and stomach area.
Also, when your body gets sick, the mucus becomes thicker than usual to fight off the infections along with WBC’s in your body.
Nose booger gross no more
I hope, now you won’t look at your nose booger with that disgusting look on your face as it helps in your well being. Additionally, make sure that you keep your hands clean while picking your nose because you would not want to intentionally fall sick by inserting a dirty finger in your nose.
