Now You Can Order ‘Blood’ In Delhi-NCR Using This App

Just like your food and groceries now you can be able to order ‘blood’ in times of need online. Yes, you read to the right you can order blood online. At a time of this pandemic when many patients need an immediate supply of blood for survival, the app has been launched as a quick and handy tool.

The app named ebloodservices app was launched by Union health minister Harsh Vardhan on Thursday. The app is a joint effort of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) and Union Health Ministry.   The services of the app would be initially available for the residents of Delhi-NCR. The health minister said that the app would bring transparency in the blood donation program and would minimize the worries of those in dire need of blood.

This is like placing a request for blood right at your doorstep. I received several complaints over the past few months from people on lack of access to safe blood, especially from those people who need regular blood donation owing to their chronic blood disorders. It will be beneficially in these corona times when commutation has become a problem and those needing blood may not be able to go from one blood bank to another“, said the Health Minister.

Talking about the app’s functioning  RK Jain, secretary-general, Indian Red Cross Society said “Through this app, the availability of blood will be visible right in your phone. Once an order has been placed then the blood bank will keep the request active for 12 hours. The order will be diverted to the next patient only after the original recipient fails to collect it within 12 hours“. To meet the blood demand in the capital the Red Cross is already organizing blood camps.

It has bee sending mobile blood collection units to various localities in and around Delhi. Pick and drop facility to voluntary blood donors is also been provided. Just like your food and groceries, you can now be able to book blood in situations of need through an app amidst this time of the pandemic.
