PAN-Aadhaar Link News: Deadline Extended; Do It Now And Avail Tax Benefits

On Friday, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) announced that they have once again extended the deadline to link PAN to Aadhaar. The CBDT which comes under the Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue, issued a statement to announce the extension of the PAN-Aadhaar linking deadline.

The CBDT said that the PAN-Aadhaar link deadline extension comes in light due to the Covid-19 pandemic concerns. The new deadline is given to ease those concerns and complete the process done.

The official statement of CBDT reads, “The Central Government, in continuation of its commitment to address the hardship being faced by various stakeholders on account of the Covid-19 pandemic, has, on consideration of representations received from various stakeholders, decided to extend timelines for compliances under the Income-tax Act, 1961.”

The notice also states that the deadline for the completion of penalty proceedings under the Income-Tax Act, 1961 has also been extended from September 30, 2020, to March 31, 2022.

If you want to link PAN with an Aadhaar card, then simply follow the steps.

Linking Via SMS

Step 1: Send a text SMS to 56161 or 567678. The format should be UIDPAN (space) 12-digit Aadhaar card number (space) 10-digit PAN card number.

Step 2: Now, you will get SMS updating your PAN-Aadhaar linking status.

Linking Via the Income-Tax Department Portal

Step 1: Firstly, click on the e-filing portal of the I-T department.

Step 2: Open the ‘Quick Links’ section, and hit on ‘Link Aadhaar’.

Step 3: After this, you are redirected to a new page. Here, enter the Aadhaar number, PAN number, and other required details as per the Aadhaar card.

Step 4: Check the box only if the birth year is mentioned in your Aadhaar card.

Step 6: Tick ‘I agree to validate my Aadhar details with UIDAI,’ box if you agree to do so.

Step 7: Enter the captcha code shown on the screen which you then need to enter.

Step 8: The final step is to just click on the ‘Link Aadhaar’ button and submit the request.
