Early in the day, Manish Kaushik (63kg) signed off with a bronze medal after going down in the semifinals in Ekaterinburg. Before this India has never won more than one bronze medal in a single edition. Vijender Singh (2009), Vikas Krishan (2011), Shiva Thapa (2015) and Gaurav Bidhuri (2017) have bought the honors for India earlier.
Panghal won the Asian Championships gold this year after he moved up to the 52kg category following the dropping of 49kg from the Olympic roster. The performance of the boxing star has raised medal hopes from him in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
