Days after Google removed Paytm and Paytm First Games apps briefly (the former) from the Play Store citing policy breach, Paytm has released its own in-app Mini App store in India. The newly launched Mini app store is also being seen as an alternative to Play Store and Apple Store amidst rising demands for an Indian app store.
As per reports, App developers are not happy about Google Play Store asking as much as 30% commission for in-app purchases using Google’s billing system. On the other hand, throwing a bone to brands with apps, Paytm is providing listing and distribution of these mini-apps from within its app, without any charge.

As far as Paytm’s app store is concerned, the same is said to have more than 300 apps as of now including Decathlon, Ola, Rapido, Netmeds, 1MG, Domino’s Pizza, FreshMenu, NoBroke. The company will target local app developers by providing them offers when they put their apps on Paytm Mini store.

The catch here is that the mini store is only accessible via Paytm’s app and is similar to the one released by PhonePe in 2018. Paytm has recently also alleged Google play Store for unfairly cashing into its monopoly in India.

The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) said late last month that it is seeking a meeting with its members to understand the issue. “Just because Google owns the gate and the gateway to the digital ecosystem of this country, they should not act arbitrarily and enforce their rules and regulations that are contrary to our country’s laws,” a member was quoted by LiveMint as saying.
