Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, will be vaccinated in the second phase of the Covid inoculation drive launched last week, NDTV reported on Thursday. Besides the PM, all Chief Ministers and over 270 million citizens, most of them elderly, will line up to get the vaccine in the second phase.
The vaccine drive was launched on January 16. In the first phase, vaccinating the covid warriors was the priority. The health workers received either Serum Institute of India’s Covishield or Bharat Biotech’s Covaxi vaccine. There is no option to choose what vaccine to get.
Soon, the second phase of the vaccination drive will begin for people above 50 and people with comorbidities to take shots. During phase 2, all MPs and MLAs who are above 50 will also be vaccinated.
Over the days, the opposition has called out PM Modi asking the BJP members to take the vaccine first. However, the government was in the view that the fact that frontliners were the ones who risked their lives and served the country selflessly during the peak of the pandemic, they must be the first ones to receive the vaccine.
Meanwhile, India, besides vaccinating the countrymen has also started sending vaccines to neighboring countries. India has received a request from at least 15 countries ready to import the vaccine. While most countries will get the made-in-India vaccine at a fair price, some like Oman will receive it for free.
The government is also all set to launch an app that will allow people to register to get the vaccine. The associated ministry has also confirmed that people would soon be able to use the Aarogya Setu app to register for the vaccine.
Another app that people can use to register to get covid vaccine shot is Co-WIN.
