I dedicate the Global Goalkeeper Award, conferred by the @gatesfoundation, to the 130 crore people of India and the collective endeavours of our nation to improve cleanliness.
It makes me most happy that India’s successes in sanitation have helped women and children the most. pic.twitter.com/Va4QKMY3tv

PM Narendra Modi on Wednesday was conferred the ‘Global Goalkeeper Award’ for mentoring Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, an initiative to make India clean and open-defecation free. Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation presented the award to PM Modi. “This honour is not mine but of the crores of Indians who not only fulfilled the ‘Swachh Bharat’ dream but also made it a part of their daily lives,” said Modi while receiving the award.
Under the campaign, lakhs of toilets across the country have been erected, especially in the rural areas, thus benefiting women and girls. Modi also mentioned that he was told that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation had reported improvement in rural sanitation facilities.
