Now You’ll Have To Quit Smoking And Eating Tobacco If You Want A Government Job In This State

In a new regulation to make its office tobacco-free, the government of Jharkhand, in an order, has stated said that people seeking government jobs and current state employees will now have to provide affidavits stating they neither smoke nor chew tobacco.

The decision was reached on Tuesday during a Tobacco Control Coordination Committee meeting led by Chief Secretary Sukhdeo Singh.

The statement was issued by the state’s health, education and health ministry. It said, ‘Those in government jobs will have to give an affidavit that they will not consume tobacco in any form.’ The provision will come into effect from April 1, 2021.

As per a report by The New India Express, the government has also asked the authorities to take strict action against shopkeepers selling tobacco products within 100 metres radius from schools.

For the unaware, several state governments have recently imposed a ban on all tobacco products to curb the spread of COVID-19 ‘Manufacturing, sale and storage of pan masala is being banned in the state till further orders,” Food Security Commissioner Ministhy S said in an order issued. ‘Spitting pan masala can help in spreading Covid-19,’ the order said.
