Rahul Gandhi Accuses Twitter For Bias

Indian National Congress member Rahul Gandhi has accused Twitter that the company has restricted the ability to add new followers to his Twitter account due to pressure from Central Government.

His followers numbers have frozen after controversy that was build up last year in August.

Rahul Gandhi has expressed his view to Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal today and alleged that social media platform is under control of Narendra Modi Government. He pointed out that the number in growth of his followers was nearly 2.3 lakhs per month which also rose to 6.5 lakhs at few events. But, since August 2021 the increase in number of followers has become restricted to 2500-3000 per month. This is practically a frozen number. Rahul Gandhi has more than 19 million followers on Twitter.

In August 2021, Rahul Gandhi tweeted picture of family members of rape victim in Delhi. Several members of Bhartiya Janta Party expressed their concerns and made complaints. Twitter concluded that Rahul had violated the law by posting the picture. Following this his account was frozen for 8 days.

He wrote to Parag Agrawal that, “You have an enormous responsibility to ensure that Twitter does not actively help in the growth of authoritarianism in India.”

Rahul said that state has completely captured traditional media platforms. Due to which social media has become pivotal to raise issues among people.

He wrote, “The ideological battle between liberal democracy and authoritarianism across the world is being shaped on social media platforms. This places a huge responsibility on those that are at the helm of companies like Twitter.”
