Railway Raised Ticket Booking Limit, India’s First Bullet Train Trial In 2026

To facilitate passengers, the ticket booking limit is now increased by the Railway. Passengers can book more tickets from now on, this decision will provide relief to the passengers who prefer train travel frequently.

A statement released by the Railway Ministry said the passenger whose aadhaar card is linked with an IRCTC account can now book 12 tickets in a month compared to 6 tickets previously. And the ticket booking limit is now 24 tickets per month from 12 for the passenger whose aadhaar card is already linked with his IRCTC account.

Ministry of Railways informed with a tweet that says, “To facilitate passengers, the limit of booking tickets has been increased to 24 tickets in a month if a user ID is Aadhaar linked and that one of the passengers in the ticket to be booked is verifiable through Aadhaar.”

As per Railway norms, before the limit increase, a passenger with a linked Aadhaar ID to his IRCTC account was able to book 12 tickets in a month. Whereas, a passenger whose IRCTC account is not linked with his aadhaar was only able to book 6 tickets monthly.

Difficulties In Front of Railway This Year

Railway had to cancel 9,000 trains this year; out of 1,900 trains were cancelled due to the coal movement in the last three months, as revealed by an RTI query. As per Indian Railway, they cancelled 6,995 trains because of maintenance and construction needs, and 1,934 trains were declared cancelled to move coal instead. This was due to the severe power shortage the nation was facing, as per PTI.

Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw spoke to the media about the progress of bullet trains being built in Gujarat, Surat, saying, “We are expediting the work of the bullet train. Railways officials are working on the target of running the first bullet train between Surat and Bilimora in Gujarat. We are confident that the first bullet train will start running on time.”

He further stated that they are ready to surpass their limits to fulfil PM Modi’s dream.

The statement goes as, “Bullet train will run from Ahmedabad to Mumbai. Pillars are being installed for every 61 km. Officials are working every 150 km. We are striving to fulfil Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to bring new technologies to the nation. His aspirations include the re-development of railway stations and new Vande Bharat trains.”
