India’s Bhawna Jat sealed a birth in Tokyo Olympics qualifiers in the 20km Race Walk Category after she broke the national record at the National Race Walk Championships in Ranchi on Saturday. The athlete covered the 20km distance in 1:29:54 comfortably beating the Olympics 2020 qualification mark of 1:31:00.
Unfortunately, in the men’s category, Sandeep Kumar, despite winning the race, couldn’t qualify for Tokyo Olympics after he recorded timing of 1:21:34. He missed the Tokyo Olympics qualification by one minute 34 seconds, which is set at 1 hour 20 minutes.
“Will try to further improve timing if selected for Asian RW Championships next month in Japan and try to qualify for Tokyo 2020,” said Kumar.
