A day after Ranjan Gogoi’s retirement from the post of Chief Justice of India, the former has recommended Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde as the 47th Chief Justice of India in a letter to the government.

Justice Bobde has in the past served as an Additional Judge at the Bombay High Court and Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court. He was elevated as a Judge of the Supreme Court in April 2013. Sworn in as the 46th Chief Justice of India on October 3, 2018, Justice Gogoi will retire from the post on November 17.
