The Reserve Bank of India had released a list of bank holidays for August 2021. As per the circular, banks across India were looking at a total of 15 holidays in the month. Previously, RBI said that the banks will remain close from 19th August to 22nd August in different cities of India. However, as the calendar month had progressed, some holidays have gone and some are yet to come. The RBI list of holidays can be categorized into three categories, i.e. religious holidays, state-wise holidays, and festival holidays.
The banks will remain close for 4 days, from 28th August to 31st August, in different states of the country. None of these holidays is uniform for all the states. In other words, it can be applied at different intervals depending on the states. The uniform offs are at the weekends and fourth Saturdays of the month.
Apart from this, Janmashtami (Shravan Vad-8)/Krishna Jayanthi will take place on 30th August and RBI announced as a major holiday in the cities of Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Jaipur, Dehradun, Jammu, Kanpur, Lucknow, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar and Gangtok. Other holidays that the RBI list of holidays shows are August 28, 2021 – Fourth Saturday, August 29, 2021 – Sunday, and August 31, 2021 – Sri Krishna Ashtami (Hyderabad).
