Chennai Super Kings recently announced that a key player of the team, Suresh Raina, won’t be available for IPL 2020 because of personal reasons.
Ever since the news was out, people are trying to figure out what could be the reason for him to not play IPL 2020. And when we did our research, we bumped into two.
First, room tiff
As per a report by Outlook, Raina was unhappy with the hotel room he was assigned and wanted accommodation similar to that of CSK captain MS Dhoni.
Speaking to Outlook, CSK owner and former BCCI president N Srinivasan likened cricketers to “prima donnas” but said that Dhoni “was in complete control of the situation”.
The report added that Raina’s room did not have a proper balcony, which he needed the most as some members of the CSK team had tested positive of coronavirus. Dhoni also, as per reports, tried to convince Raina but he left anyway.
However, in the video that Raina posted on Instagram after reaching UAE, he seems pretty satisfied with the view from the room.
Ever since Raina quit IPL 2020, N Srinivasan has been criticising Raina for the same. He recently said that Raina will regret the money he is going to miss.
“Cricketers are like prima donnas … like the temperamental actors of the olden days. Chennai Super Kings have always been like a family and all seniors players have learnt to co-exist,” said Srinivasan.
“My thinking is that if you are reluctant or not happy, go back. I don’t force anyone to do anything … sometimes success gets into your head,” Srinivasan added.
Second, horrific attack
Another reason, which has more weight, is that recently, Suresh Raina’s uncle was killed in a robbery attack in Pathankot. Four other members of the family were also injured in the incident.
A group of four members of the notorious `Kale Kachhewala` gang had attacked the family while asleep on the terrace of their residence, police said.
It is learned that Asha Devi, sister of Raina`s father, is fighting hard for survival. And thus it seems to be a valid reason to quit IPL and be present for the family.
However, the next question that naturally arrives is that if Suresh Raina had quit because of family issues, then why Srinivasan is going so harsh on him? Doesn’t he know about his family and uncle’s death? Or it’s really the first claim that’s the reason behind him quitting IPL 2020?
