Delhi government has cancelled registration of vehicles (diesel) older than 10 years that were running on roads of the capital. More than 1 lakh car owners cannot use their cars on road anymore.

National Green Tribunal (NGT) gave directions to Delhi government to take action. Registration of 101,247 vehicles was cancelled which includes 87,000 cars and 14,247 carriers, buses and tractors.

Officials also said that registration of petrol vehicles that are older than 15 years will be cancelled in some time.

Currently there are 43 lakh such petrol vehicles are running in the state. This counts nearly 32 lakh two-wheelers and 11 lakh four-wheelers.

Delhi Transport Department has given warning to all vehicle owners. If diesel vehicle older than 10 years and petrol vehicle older than 15 years will run on the roads; authorities will confiscate and scrape them.

What Is The Option?

Currently, there are only two options available to people. They can either sell their cars in different states after taking No Objection Certificate from Delhi Transport Department. Or they can also install electric kits in their vehicles.

Officials have told that 8 electric kit manufacturers are empaneled to install electric kits in vehicles. Talks are currently going on with more manufacturers for setting competitive price in market for people.

It will cost nearly 3-5 lakhs to install electric kit in cars and it will depend on capacity of battery and its range. The cost of converting two-wheelers and three-wheelers will be less.
