Taking a step of precaution against the deadly Coronavirus Russia has decided to close its borders with China. The virus has so far killed over 200 people. It is now declared as ‘Global Health Emergency’ by WHO.
Issuing of e-visas to Chinese nationals would also be stopped. Prime Minister of Russia Mikhail Mishustin told that the order had been signed “to take measures to close the border (with China) in the Far East. We have to do everything to protect our people”.
The visas can be used to cross into parts of the Far East and western Russia. Thus the foreign ministry is now not issuing it to Chinese. The authorities have advised Russians to refrain from traveling to China. For those in China, the authorities have asked them to get in touch with the Russian embassy.
Russia so far has not reported any confirmed case of the virus. However, in India, one case has been confirmed in the state of Kerala.
