Sanitization At Home: Here Is How You Can Sanitize Your Vegetables And Groceries Shopped From Outside

While we are keeping ourselves safe by staying at home as far as possible and following sanitization hygiene there is something more to it. Our daily needs like groceries and vegetables can become a source of COVID-19 infection for us. As they come from outside and have been touched by many hands we need to sanitize them as well.

Groceries

The problem here is most people don’t know how to sanitize these things, especially vegetables. Well, not anymore as we have got a simple ar home solution for you to sanitize your groceries and vegetables every time you by them before use.

Sanitizing Packed/ Canned Items

The first thing you need to do when you are home with your groceries is to put on a clean pair of gloves. Use an alcohol-based sanitizer or a soapy solution and dip the gloves in that before wearing. While dipping just wash the outer surface of the gloves. Next, follow the steps:

  • Take two buckets (or any similar thing).
  • Create a soapy water solution in one bucket.
  • You can create a soapy solution by dropping some quantity of hand wash at home in the water.
  • If you can just heat up the water before pouring in the hand wash then it can be good, Just lukewarm, and not boil the water.
  • Now start picking up items like milk packet, sugar, atta packet, etc. and start wiping them using the cloth dipped in the solution.
  • Wipe each time for at least 20 seconds and then put it in another bucket for drying.
  • Repeat the process for all the other items.
  • You can also spray alcohol-based sanitizer spray-on products put that would require a lot of amount of the spray each time unlike few drops of hand wash for creating the soapy solution.

Sanitizing Vegetables And Eggs

These are some sensitive or direct consumables that don’t come with a packaged layer. Here using an alcohol-based sanitizer or soapy solution is something not much recommended. The reason being that the soap or sanitizer consumption can cause gastrointestinal distress leading to vomiting and diarrhea when consumed in large quantities.

What you can do with them is to wash them thoroughly with tap water for 20 to 40 seconds. Another way its to dip the vegetables, eggs, etc in a solution of Potassium permanganate which is an antiseptic and can be used. However, Doctors say that there is no scientific backing to this. Whichever way you feel good you can opt. The crux here is to sanitize before use to contain the spread.
