The Supreme Court on Thursday ordered political parties to publish reasons for the selection of candidates with criminal records to contest election under the party’s name on their public website. The court has ordered the political parties to publish the information of the criminal records of candidates in Assembly and Parliament polls, at their website as well as social media platforms.
The order comes after a petition urging the court to publicise such details reached the top court and was held valid by the bench hearing the same. The petition added that the court’s direction to publicise the cases, as per a September 2018 judgment, was not being practiced by the political parties.
