Indians and Chinese Hold 47% of International Students in the US: Report

If we talk about the best place to study higher education then the US comes first in our mind. It offers reputed universities with an outstanding education system. Some of them are – Harvard University, Stanford University, Columbia University, Yale University, New York University, etc. Every year, hundreds of thousands of students visit the US to pursue higher degrees in different disciplines. Indians and Chinese mostly visit the US for their higher studies.

According to SEVIS, it is found that 590, 021 students visited the US for their higher education in 2020. Out of these, 382, 561 students were from China followed by 207, 460 students from India. Additionally, students from countries like South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, and Canada are also high.

SEVIS Report for Indian and Chinese Students in the US

As per the SEVIS all active reports, 47 per cent of Indian and Chinese students have enrolled on the colleges and universities of the US which is a light decreased from 48 per cent as per the calendar year 2019. Moreover, the overall cunt for the active F-1 and M-1 student records coming from Asia has decreased by 143, 697 as compared to 2019.

A large number of students coming from India and China have made Asia one of the most popular continents of origin. Still, the count of students coming to the US from India and China has decreased. Let’s have a quick view:

  • 91, 936 fewer students from China have visited the US in 2020 as compared to 2019
  • India has sent 41, 761 fewer students to the US in the year 2020 as compared to the last year

Not only this, other Asian countries like South Korea, Japan, and Saudi Arabia have too sent fewer students to the US. 44% which is about 552,188 of F-1 and M-1 international students in 2020 were female, and the ratio for making was 56 per cent (698,964). If we talk about the Indian and Chinese scholars, 35 % were Indian females and 65% were Indian males, whereas, for China, these figures were 47% were females and 53% were males.
