Setting up a good example for the rest of the world, Lachen, a town in Sikkim, is all set to introduce bamboo bottles as an alternative to the plastic ones.
This comes after the town imposed a ban on plastic bottles and was looking for an alternative for the same. This was a necessary step as Lachen is frequently visited by tourists to see its snow-capped peaks and picturesque views.
However, tourists would often leave plastic bottles behind, which plagues the health of the state and the town. The bamboo water bottles come as a good alternative and are manufactured in Assam through Sikkim Rajya Sabha MP Hishey Lachungpa.
Sikkim is one of the earliest states to have taken steps to curb the use of plastic. It has banned the use of packaged drinking water in government offices as well as at all government events.
Every vehicle entering Lachen is checked for plastic bottles. As of now, the local authorities have ordered 1,000 bamboo water bottles. This number will be increased if the demand of the bottles increases in the near future. If you ask us, you must invest in the bottles as it is both good for nature and also looks quite beautiful.
The town also faces pollution in the form of plastic warpers and is trying to not let the same choke the aesthetic of the state.
