India reported the largest number of new COVID-19 cases in 225 days, along with five deaths from the virus. The Health Ministry said that 4,091 cases were now active on the Covid caseload.
Out of the five fresh deaths reported in the last twenty-four hours, two were from Kerala and one each from Puducherry, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu. According to news agency PTI, India previously registered as many new cases in a single day on May 19, when it registered 865 instances.
According to ANI, which cited sources, up to December 28th, 145 instances of the JN.1 sub-variant of COVID-19 have been reported. These samples were collected from November 21, 2023, to December 18, 2023.
Before December 5, the number of cases reported each day had fallen to only two figures. However, with the beginning of the new virus subvariant, JN.1, the number of cases began to rise once more. In certain ways, the country’s cold temperature contributes to the rise in viral transmission.
At the peak of the epidemic earlier in 2020, there were lakhs of instances reported per day. According to sources, in the roughly four years that have passed since then, over 4.5 crore people in India have become infected and over 5.3 lakh have died nationwide.
According to data from the Health Ministry, nearly 4.4 crore people recovered from the virus, and the country’s recovery rate was reported at 98.81 per cent. Based on statistics from the Ministry, 220.67 crore doses of the COVID-19 vaccination have been given nationwide so far.
