You Are Unnecessarily Worrying About These 11 Hair Myths

MOST POPULAR YET STRANGE MYTHS

Since childhood, I have always admired people with beautiful hair. I believe having long and healthy hair is such a blessing. I refer to my peers whenever I need any advise regarding hair. But, all they do is confuse me with different opinions. Thus, I figured out myself and got surprised with the fact that most of the hair care that we follow in daily routine is actually a myth and does nothing.

1. TRIMMING HAIR REGULARLY ENCOURAGES HAIR GROWTH

HAIR TRIMMING

The first and the most widespread myth of all time. Trimmed hair obviously looks healthier though. However, it won’t speed up the growth rate. Hair grows a quarter to half inch each month as hair growth is dependent on follicles on your scalp.

Actually, the matter of fact is that after trimming the hair down, all your thin and split ends are removed and hair appears to be thicker and better than before.

2. COUNTLESS HAIR FALL ARE ALWAYS BAD

HAIR FALL WOMAN

It’s actually not true at all, as one need to recognize the science behind the hair structure and its growth. Hair growth passes from various stages of which the last one is resting phase for follicles. In this phase, follicles becomes inactive for three months due to which your hair are released and then falls out. So, it’s a natural process and it’s nothing to worry about if you lose around 50-80 hairs a day.

3. DANDRUFF CAUSES DRY SCALP

DANDRUFF HAIR

I also used to associate dandruff issues with itchy and dry scalp. Scientifically, it is a result of disturbance of the scalp due to which the dead cell starts shedding with a faster pace as compared to a healthy scalp. These dead cells converts to white flakes also known as dandruff.

4. STRESS CAUSES GRAYS

It is not necessary in every case as it depends on age(obviously) and genes. As you age, the skin produces less melanin and this results in growth of hair into white or gray. However, if you are genetically susceptible to gray hair, stress can make them appear earlier.

5. HAIR COLORING LEADS TO HIGH DAMAGE

It is almost every second person’s thought whether to dye their hair or to completely avoid it regardless of many grays. People have different opinions about hair coloring according to their experiences. The outcome of hair coloring depends on the type of dye you choose, its ingredients, how often you color or the kind of color you are applying. As per Dr. Piliang adding color actually plumps up your strands, making your locks look thicker.

6. AIR DRYING IS BETTER THAN BLOW DRYING

What if I told you that air drying does more damage to the hair than blow drying. This study proved that. According to this study, the best way is to use your blow dryer with the lowest heat setting or at least 6 inches away from your hair.

7. HAIR REQUIRES BRUSHING FREQUENTLY

Actually, excessive brushing may do more harm than good. The more you brush your hair, the more they will get prone to breakage. Moreover, it can also affect the cuticles because of extreme pressure on it which can lead to extensive weakening and damage to your hair follicles.

8. SHAMPOOS STOP WORKING GRADUALLY ON HAIR

I have found people switching their shampoos with the belief that their shampoos have stopped working. However, your hair require different nourishment time to time and thus a different shampoo may feel like it is doing a better job.

9. OILING HAIR IS MANDATORY

HAIR CARE AND OILING

Our mothers always emphasized on the importance of hair oiling. Sure, it is a no-brainer that oiling adds nourishment to hair but it is not mandatory. Oiling leads to accumulation of dust and oil on the scalp and thus encouraging hair fall. If you are feeling dryness in your hair, it make sense only then to take help of oil nourishment.

10. TWISTS OR BRAID CAN PROTECT HAIR FROM DAMAGE

Yes, it really works. However, only in case of a neat ponytail or loose rubber bands. A continuous pressure of tight rubber bands, high pony tail or other extension can cause unnecessary tension on hair follicles and intensely damage them. So, it’s better to avoid unwanted accessories while tying up hair, a low ponytail or a loose bun works well.

11. RINSING HAIR WITH COLD WATER STRAIGHTENS THEM

I am totally confused with this one because I myself tried this trick most of the times and I believe that it really works. However, what study reveals about this myth is totally surprising. According to it, hair contains no living cells so it cannot respond to different water temperature. Moreover, there is no scientifically proven theory behind it. So, there is no correlation between cold water and straight hairs.
