If you haven’t been living under the rock, you would have come across this picture of dog saluting 15 Corps Commander Lt Gen KJS Dhillon. In the picture, one can also see the Army official returning the salute to the dog with the utmost pride.
Nevertheless, less know the emotional and adorable story behind the same.
Speaking to ANI, Army officials said that the picture dates backs from July 1when Amarnath Yatra had just begun.
“While the Corps Commander was going to the holy cave for darshan, around 50 metres before it, Menaka was carrying out his duties. As the Corps Commander reached there, the dog saluted him,” they said.
As per Indian Army traditions, a senior officer is supposed to salute back when officials salute at them.
Hence the same was a gesture of respect towards the dog.
Retweeting the picture posted on Twitter by a handled @nee_el on the Remount Veterinary Corps Day (RVC), Lt Gen Dhillon tweeted: “Salute to the Buddy who saved many a lives many a times.”
Dogs usually follow Army officials during operations and are trained for the same. They help Army personals detect explosives planted by terrorists.
The canines are also rewarded for their service upon their retirement just like human officials are. Earlier in November, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) unit attached to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) organized a function to honour its 7 canines post-retirement.
