U.S. President Donald Trump has come heavy on the World Health Organization (WHO). After blaming the global health body for supporting China in hiding pandemic Trump has already stopped funding to the body. The WHO has been on the radar of the U.S. president ever since the pandemic broke out.
On Friday he probably put the final nail in the coffin in relation with WHO. The United States will terminate its relationship with the World Health Organization informed the president. “Because they have failed to make the requested and greatly needed reforms, we will be today terminating our relationship with the World Health Organization and redirecting those funds to other worldwide and deserving, urgent global public health needs “, said Trump.
China had not properly reported information it had about the coronavirus to the World Health Organization and said China had pressured the WHO to “mislead the world”, said Trump. WHO however offered no comments after Trump’s announcement as per reports from CNN. During his address, Trump openly targeted China the country behind the outbreak of COVID-19.
He said that the world needs an answer from China. He called that the U.S. would take unprecedented action against China. He blamed China for espionage to steal U.S industrial secrets and unlawfully claiming territory in the Pacific Ocean. He hit at the law passed by China which is passed to undermine the autonomy of Hong Kong. The backing off of the U.S the largest fund provider to WHO can surely hurt the organization’s fight against the pandemic.
