A lack of safety gear for doctors in the country has been a problem ever since the coronavirus pandemic broke out. And in a kind gesture to provide the best to the front-liners who are risking their lives for us, TikTok has announced a fund of 100 crore rupees for India.
Tiktok will donate as many as 400,000 hazmat medical protective suits and 200,000 masks, “to protect doctors and front line medical staff in India”.
In a recently released statement TikTok said, “While citizens are practicing social distancing and staying at home as a preventive measure, India’s medical personnel are working tirelessly to keep all of us safe and protected.”
The platform, owned by Chinese millionaire Zhang Yimin’s ByteDance, further added, “With support from the Union Ministry of Textile, this essential gear, which meets the prescribed standards and guidelines, is being handed over to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.”
The masks and safety gear, as per a report have been handed over to Delhi and Maharastra government. The two states are currently the most affected due to cornavirus.
Currently, India has reported more than 1,800 coronavirus cases and 40+ deaths due to coronavirus.
No Wimbledon This Year
In other news, Wimbledon organisers on Wednesday announced the scarping of the grasscourt Grand Slam for the first time since World War II. The decision was taken eyeing the current global pandemic.
Wimbledon tournaments have a huge fan base from across the world and cancelling of the same is a big deal. The organisers in a statement said that that they had made the decision with “great regret”.
As the decision came in, the worldwide coronavirus cases crossed 9 lakh mark with countries like the USA beginning to feel its wrath. The other day, as many as 850+ people died in the US in a single day due to cornavirus. The USA currently has the world’s most coronavirus infected as it failed to make stringent laws beforehand, which would have curbed the virus outbreak.
Spiritual Singer Nirmal Singh Dies of COVID-19
Meanwhile, in a piece of devasting news, 62-year-old Sikh spiritual singer Nirmal Singh, who was also a Padma Shri recipient, died of coronavirus in Punjab early this morning. Nirmal Singh was a former ”Hazuri Raagi” at Golden Temple and a celebrated artist. He died in Amritsar around 4.30 am.
