Canada was the first to ‘back off’ by saying that its athlete won’t participate followed by Australia and Great Britain. As per the International Olympic Committee member, Dick Pound be held in 2021. This would be the first time in the history that the Olympics would be postponed due to any ‘pandemic’. Earlier the ‘mega sporting event’ was not held during the 2 world wars.

“The parameters going forward have not been determined, but the Games are not going to start on 24 July, that much I know”, said Pound. The Paralympics 2020 to be held in Tokyo would also be postponed to 2021. The IOC has said that it would take a 4 week time to decide about the future of the sporting event.

Most probably the new dates of the event are to be decided in this 4 weeks’ time. Japan who was determined to host the games this year finally would bow down to IOC. As athletes across the world gather at the event this could have been a boon for ‘COVID-19‘ spread in the world. Major sporting events across the world are already postponed.
