The U.S. President Donald Trump is highly likely to inaugurate the world’s largest cricket stadium in India. Trump who would be on his visit to India on February 24 and 25 is expected to inaugurate the stadium in Ahemdabad.
Sardar Vallabhbhai Stadium earlier known as Motera stadium would be the world’s largest cricket ground once it opens. The stadium would have a capacity of seating 1.10 lakh people. The Motera stadium was demolished way back in 2015 and went under re-construction.
“He (Modi) said we will have millions and millions of people. My only problem is that last night we probably had 40 or 50,000 people… I’m not going to feel so good… There will be five to seven million people just from the airport to the new stadium (in Ahmedabad),” Trump said as quoted by The Wire.
Trump along with Prime Minister Modi would be inaugurating the stadium during his visit. The stadium built at an estimated amount of US$ 100 million, is set to beat the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The MCG is the largest cricket stadium in the world.
The stadium is likely to host its first match in the month of April or May. Interestingly the stadium would not only be used for cricket. The stadium would host a variety of sports including football, hockey, basketball, kabaddi, boxing, lawn tennis, athletic track, squash, billiards, badminton, and swimming.
