Trump pointed out that Washington has been watching what is happening with Pakistan and India in relation to Kashmir. He said, “We are doing more trade as it turns and we are working together on some borders. We are talking about Kashmir in relation to what is going on with Pakistan and India. We’ve been watching that and following it closely”.
Last year when the U.S President met Imran Khan and Prime Minister Modi he made a controversial statement on the Kashmir issue. He said that PM Modi has asked him to act as a mediator in the Kashmir issue. His remarks created a huge uproar from the side of opposition in India.
On asked about the chances of his Pakistan visit during his trip to India later this year Trump said, “We are visiting right now, so we won’t really have to. But I wanted to say hello for both a relationship standpoint, we’ve had a great relationship and from the standpoint of our two countries.”
The tensions between India and Pakistan are on the boil ever since the Indian parliament abrogated Article 370, ending the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcating the erstwhile state into union territories.
