U.K. Issues Advisory Over Sexual Crimes Against Women In India

Amidst the rising incidents of crime against women in India where a rape incident is reported almost every day a news tarnishing India’s International reputation has come. The United Kingdom (U.K.) has issued safety advisory over sexual crime against women for its citizens.

India is building its image as an unsafe place for women thus creating fear in the minds of International women travelers about there safety when they come here. Taking the safety of there citizens visiting India or those who are in India under consideration U.K. has issued the advisory.

The British Government issued a detailed information sheet for ‘survivors of rape and sexual assault’ for its citizens traveling or staying in India. The advisory reads that rape and sexual assault survivors should ‘insist’ on a police report.

It also says that the police are not bound to provide an English translation, but the survivor could get the statement read and explained in English before signing it. Earlier this year in the month of March the U.S. also issued a similar kind of advisory.

The US Government’s India travel advisory, issued in March 2019 places India at ‘level 2’ security, and advises travelers to ‘exercise increased caution’. It also states that Indian authorities report rape as one of the fastest-growing crimes in India, and violent crime, such as sexual assault, has occurred at tourist sites and in other locations.
