Testing has been the key in the context of the fight against COVID-19. However, reducing the time of testing is a challenge. U.S healthcare technology maker Abbott has lived up to the challenge. Abbott has made a ‘5-minute testing device‘.
The device has the capability to produce on the spot right results right at the point-of-care. The device has received emergency clearance for use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This roughly the size of a small kitchen appliance can be very effective in beefing testings amidst COVID-19.
Abbott is planning to step up the production of the device by 50,000 per day possible starting next week. Unlike other rapid test mechanisms, the device uses the molecular testing method, which works with saliva and mucus samples swabbed from a patient. Thus, it identifies the portion of DNA of the virus which adds to its efficacy.
