Under New IT Guidelines, The Government Has Banned 20 Youtube Channels And Two Websites

Anti-India propaganda from Pakistan was purportedly broadcast on YouTube channels and websites.

According to a news article in the Economic Times, India took down 20 YouTube channels and two websites on Monday after the Union government used emergency powers for the first time under the intermediary rules and digital media ethics code in the IT Act that was just announced. Anti-India propaganda from Pakistan was purportedly being broadcast on YouTube channels and websites.

According to the publication, I&B secretary Apurva Chandra has ordered YouTube and the Department of Telecom to remove the footage because it violates India’s sovereignty and integrity.

Officials from the I&B stated that Pakistan was behind the ‘anti-India material,’ which was spread with the assistance of Inter-Services Intelligence. One of the YouTube groups uncovered was ‘Naya Pakistan,’ which had over 2 million members and was broadcasting ‘fake news’ on Kashmir, Indian farmer protests, Article 370, and Ayodhya. According to authorities, the entire subscriber base of these YouTube channels is believed to be above 3.5 million, with a total viewing of 500 million.

The security agencies were the ones who originally alerted the information ministry, who then launched their own investigation. The storey quotes a senior source as stating, “This is the first time the emergency powers under the IT Rules, 2021 have been utilised to block anti-India propaganda websites.”
