The Deputy CM of Uttar Pradesh Keshav Prasad Maurya sparked a controversy with his statement on Sunday night. Maurya was attending an election rally in support of BJP candidate Narendra Mehta in Thane.
In a sparking statement, he said that pressing the lotus button on EVM (Electronic Voting Machine) during elections would be equivalent to dropping a nuclear bomb on Pakistan.
His statement comes at a time when the relations between the two nations are already quite tense, specially post the revocation of “special status” of J&K. Since these are the first major elections post the August 5 move the BJP is looking to ride on this to retaining its grip in Haryana and Maharashtra assemblies.
