UP News: Daily Covid-19 Cases & Deaths Turn To Dip; Has The Second Covid Wave Ebbed In UP?

Uttar Pradesh is known as one of the most populous states in India. Where other states like Mumbai and Rajasthan record a heavy surge in Covid-19 cases, Uttar Pradesh seems to be coming out of the grip of the second Covid-19 wave. On April 24, the state has recorded a high of 37, 944 new cases, and now on May 19, Wednesday, the fresh infections cases are 7,186. After Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu, UP has recorded the maximum number of cases (16.45 lakh) so far.

UP stands fifth in the country with a total of 18,352 Covid-related deaths in the state. Only Tamil Nadu (18,734), Delhi (22,579), Karnataka (23,306), and Maharashtra (84,371) have recorded more deaths than UP. However, the daily deaths in UP have also declined. On May 7, the state has recorded a record high of 372 and within two weeks the death cases have declined to 280.

UP has 1.24 lakh active Covid-19 cases. States like West Bengal (1.31 lakh cases), Rajasthan (1.53 lakh), Andhra Pradesh (2.1 lakh), Tamil Nadu (2.54 lakh), Kerala (3.32 lakh), Maharashtra (4.02 lakh), Karnataka (5.59 lakh) are ahead of UP in terms of active cases.

The UP government has notified that surveillance teams are actively working in the villages and 68 percent of the state’s villages are now free of the virus.
