UPSC Modified Number of Vacancies

UPSC (Union Service Public Commission) has increased the total number of vacancies for this year. After six years, UPSC has made such a decision and vacancies cross the mark of 1000. The final number of vacancies are now 1011. Before this improvisation, the total vacancies were 861.

Why the Commission increases the vacancies?

UPSC decides to increase the number of vacancies, as the government takes judgment to recruit 150 personnel in IRMS. The vacancies are for group A in IRMS (Indian Railway Management Service) through CSE 202. Out of 150 vacancies for IRMS, 6 were reserve for the candidates who comes under the category of Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD).

The Official statement by the UPSC was “ It has been decided by the commission to add the IRMS, Group ‘A’ to the list of services indicated in its Notice under reference. The tentative number of vacancies i.e. 861 as indicated in the Examination Notice Dated 02.02.2022 now stands modified to 1011”.

Number of Vacancies in Past Years

For the past five years, the number of vacancies was below the 1000 mark. Vacancies were above the 1000 mark in 2016 last time, since then there was no such modifications. The exact vacancies were 1079 in 2016, 980 in 2017, 782 in 2018, 896 in 2019 & in 2020 there were 796 vacancies. The lowest number of vacancies was 712 which was last year. You should know that 10 lakh candidates register each year for the UPSC exams.

For other additional vacancies introduced this year, UPSC announced that “eligibility conditions etc. for recruitment to the IRMS, Group ‘A’ through the Civil Services Examination- 2022 will be the same as indicated in the Notice of the Civil Services Examination- 2022 published on 02.02.2022. Therefore, those who have already applied for the Civil Services (Prel.) Examination- 2022, are not required to apply afresh”.

The Online registration process of the UPSC CSE exam has begun, the last date to apply is Feb 22 till 6 PM. You can register through this link https://upsconline.nic.in/mainmenu2.php. The UPSC Civil Service Exam date is 5th June.

Note: After applying the candidates cannot edit the form later. The candidates who are willing to withdraw their application can do it between 1-7 March till 6 PM.
