If you saw #ShameSuratPolice amongst the top trends on Twitter then this was the reason for it. A video of the Surat Police’s constable assaulting a woman banker was going viral in the social media. The short video showing a CCTV grab captured the act of the policeman.
In the video, the police Constable entered the cabin of the woman banker and slapped and shook her aggressively. The incident was reported from Canara Bank’s branch in Surat’s Saroli. The incident also came to the notice of the Union Finance Ministry. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tweeted about the event saying that an FIR has been filed against the Constable and he in suspension.
The finance minister also said that she would be closely following the matter. “My office is being informed that the Commissioner of Police visited @canarabank ’s Saroli branch and assured staff of full cooperation; the accused police constable is placed under suspension“, tweeted the Finance Minister.

The Finance Minister also said that nothing should threaten the safety and dignity of the bank employees. Meanwhile, in the whole incident, the name of the policeman was not made public.
