Video: Woman Drags Her ‘100 Years Old Mother’ On ‘Charpai’ For Pension Verification To Bank

In what can be said as a sheer lack of empathy on part of officials towards the elderly a woman was forced to drag her 100 years old mother. As per reports from Amar Ujala a lady on Charpai (Cots) aged 100 was dragged to the bank for the purpose of verification for pension credit.

The shocking incident has come to light from the Nuapada region of Odisha. The woman said that she was forced to take this action as the bank manager has called for physical verification of her mother. The video of 60 years old Punjimati Dei dragging the cot of her mother en route bank has been doing rounds on social media.

The district collector of Nuapada has set aside the claims of the lady and said that the banking officials went for physical verification to their home. Netizens however have taken the administration under the hammer for this insensitivity. Meanwhile, the MLA of the region has made a statement.

We came to know about the incident through video in which woman was seen being dragged on a cot. She was taken to the bank for the withdrawal of her pension money. I request Govt to look into the matter&take strict action against defaulters“, said Raju Dholakia, Nuapada MLA. On 9th June the Punjimati went to withdraw Rs 1500 from her mother’s account.

The amount was credited as per the incentive from the side of government where Rs 500 has been credited to all Jan Dhan bank accounts of women holders for April to June as a pandemic relief measure. The bank then didn’t allow her to do a transaction without physically verifying her mother’s identity who is on medication and bedridden. Meanwhile, the district officials have said the bank is managed by a single person who assured a home visit to the lady for verification a day after.
