On Tuesday morning also, West Bengal Police are taking strict action against BJP workers who are trying to advance through them to reach Kolkata for Nabanna Abhiyan, which is a march to the secretariat. It is being said as BJP’s biggest movement since the 2021 elections defeat.
West Bengal Nabanna Abhiyan, Party Workers Arrested or Detained
Part workers, of different districts, at least thousands in numbers are either getting arrested or detained. Senior BJP leaders including, Suvendu Adhikari, Locket Chatterjee, Taapshi Mondol and Dibankar Gharami were also detained by police.
Police are also indulged in blocking the party vehicles in the regions of Haldia and Nandigram. As per the BJP’s strategy, “ rallies from three points will try to reach Nabanna, the state secretariat. Adhikari was set to lead a rally from Satraganchi, while party state chief Sukanta Majumdar is to lead one from Howrah Maidan.”
The plan also involved Dilip Ghosh, former state BJP chief, who will lead the workers from college street. This level of the campaign from the BJP was executed last time in the year 2022.
In the early morning, Kolkata police were seen diverting traffic from all the central Kolkata roads. “The Howrah bridge, the Second Hooghly bridge and Esplanade were barricaded to prevent the BJP worker’s movement”.
Adhikari also criticised the Trinamool congress with a tweet that reads, “Mamata Police is on a war footing, trying to crush a democratic political event. The barricade of steel raised at Santragachi symbolises her anxiety & timidity. Remember this @MamataOfficial, no wall can stand up to the ‘wave of democracy, it would be breached sooner than later.”
