NZ Opener Raises His Bat With Handle Upwards After Hitting A Ton, Here’s Why

If you ever thought why cricket is called the gentleman’s game, then here’s one of the many hear-warming reasons.

New Zealand opener Tom Blundell, braved difficult conditions on Sunday, to score a ton against Australia. Although the 100 couldn’t help the visitor pull a win at MCG, but Blundell’s gesture won many hearts.

The New Zealand Opener after completing the 100 raised his bat with the handle pointing upwards. While many didn’t notice the same, but the celebration had a unique reason intact.

The 29-year-old’s bat featured a multi-coloured grip in support of six-year-old girl Hollie Beattie who suffers from neuroblastoma which is a rare form of cancer. Blundell is raising money by helping sell ‘Helping Hollie’ bat grips.
